Biography

I'm Jackie Brooks, and I am a college student at Hofstra University studying Exercise Science. If you would have told me years ago that this is the career path I would be following, I would have told you you're crazy.

As a child and teenager, I spent a lot of time feeling uncomfortable in my own skin. I was 5 feet 7 inches when I was nine years old, and I was much more developed than anybody I knew in my age group. I felt out of place and alone, I just wanted to be like everyone else. After struggling with my self-image, I eventually found fitness; little did I know, it would be something that would change my life forever.

I began working with a personal trainer around the age of 15. I learned the basics about training and lifting light weights, which sparked a small fire in me. I continued to lift light weights and do cardio throughout high school. When I began college, I became more serious about lifting weights and fitness in general. I was attending art school in Manhattan, and it was a way for me to feel good about myself, and to de-stress among the chaos of being an art student. After that year, I ended up taking a semester off to change my career path. I spent that semester working full-time and lifting weights six days a week. It became my life. I loved the challenge and accomplishment that I felt in the gym. A few months later, I had changed my body completely, and realized that a career in fitness was what I wanted.

I have now been a student in Hofstra's exercise science program for a year and a half. I am an intern at Gaglione Strength, a strength and conditioning gym in Farmingdale, NY - another place that has changed my life. I am a powerlifter and certified personal trainer at Healthtrax in Garden City, NY, and I am about to start my career improving the lives of others through the use of fitness. My main focus is showing women that it is possible to be strong while maintaining femininity. I know what a powerful impact strength and fitness can have on a person's life because I've experienced it first hand. I can not wait to help others on their journey to becoming the best version of themselves!
